Rounding to the nearest dollar at the gas pump

I usually stop the pump at about 85-90 cents and then slowly creep up to hit the 00 dollar mark. The dollar amount doesn’t matter, it’s just the pennies that count. A total $36.00 is as good as $35.00. When I’m in a playful mood and in rare instances, a $40.04 would be just the right amount – a palindrome for the pump. It seems that I’m not the only one who likes to hit the nearest dollar mark at the gas station. In a study performed over some time at a north-eastern gas station, the tallies were made and show that 60% of us like to end on the double zeroes.
